Hello hello,

It’s been a real thrill to see “Hiding So Long” being covered by other singers/guitarists/musicians! Thank you for giving new expression to the song. To me art is dynamic, never static, and always evoking something new in the moment in which we find ourselves, so it’s cool to watch the song continue to unfold.

When I first bring a song to my band or to other musicians to play, I write up a pretty simple chord chart just to speed up the process… I’ve had a couple of people ask online for a chord chart for the song, so here we go – I’ll post it here. Below is the same chart that I gave to the boys in New York and New Zealand when we first played the song. Enjoy.

I knew I was home when I received a call from the affable guy setting up a guitar of mine. It’s a Taylor acoustic, and needed some adjustments made. He said to me, “I see that there’s been no arrangement made for payment – let’s make it a box of beers.” I wasn’t sure that he was serious, but then he continued talking about lowering the action of my guitar, and keeping an eye on the wood in this damp, wintry weather. So, a box of beers it was. In fact, he had specified that he wanted none of the ‘cheap stuff’, that it should be something nice, and that he wouldn’t be at the guitar store to receive the beers, but that the rest of the boys would enjoy them. Nice work. I love it. Actually, when delivering the stash, I had to check with the guy at the counter – “Is this a ‘box’ of beers – a box of twelve? Is that correct?” He approved. The exchange was made. The invoice I received merely said, in the space for payment, “Beer.” Confirmation of what I am often told by non-New Zealanders: “New Zealanders are friendly.” Yes we are!

So here I am, for longer than usual, in Auckland preparing for the New Zealand release of ALL or NOTHING. It’s an exciting stage of the album’s life, being released on a Sony/BMG-distributed label named Rajon Music: last week we were meeting with the music TV channels to show them the Inside Out video clip, which was only just now completed – catch it before it hits the airwaves (I hope!!!). More news to come.

Below are several photos from the Bitter End show on Thursday night. Thank you to the wonderfully energetic and rocking audience that made for such a fun night! As yet, I have no news to report regarding my dedication of “You, You, You” to Neil Diamond (who, as I mentioned, frequently played the Bitter End back in the day, and returned a month ago for a secret show). Either he’s flattered beyond words, or the news has not reached him. I’m guessing the former.

But before the photos from the show, I have recently posted a music video of Hiding So Long on YouTube. We shot this some time ago, at the very beginning of the recording of ALL or NOTHING, when a photographer/videographer friend was in town (Sedona, AZ).

By the way, the Inside Out music video (the behind-the-scenes clip is on an earlier post) is still on the way, but should be ready very soon!!!

Greetings from New Zealand, where I’m preparing for the NZ launch of ALL or NOTHING (a few weeks yet – not until my next NZ visit – though it’s already available online: iTunes and CD Baby). Last weekend saw the shoot of the music video for Inside Out, which should be available next month (editing and all that stuff). Click below for a little behind-the-scenes footage, featuring the mischievous Garett Mayow. Back to the U.S. next week – stay tuned for the upcoming Voice of America radio interview/performance on April 30th.
